TRIBUTE TO OUR
SOUTHERN ANCESTORS:

Carved stone and ceramic masks were common in the Teotihuacánian and Mayan cultures.
In this "Tribute to Our Southern Ancestors" the artist has transposed the mask representation
into a ceramic bowl. The trapezoidally shaped ear pieces are made of matrix Morenci
turquoise. Prehistoric turquoise is known to have been traded between the
Arizona-New Mexico region and Central Mexico. 1995
