Of all the artist's ceramic creations this form has the strongest
connection with a metaphor for life.
What is life without experience? The
tee-door opening or doorway represents that experience of
walking through
the doorway of a childhood home for the last time, or the graduation from a
university, or birth or death itself. It is the entrance and exit to
important events in our lives, when
viewed in the continuity of time, that
produces emotional memories or thoughts. The spiral rim
represents that
path of life. The Hopi survived a millennia in the rugged high desert.
The low
shouldered Sikyatki ceramic form of the Hopi seems the appropriate vessel to
communicate
this metaphor. © 1995
