The Blanketed Figure vase captures a serene moment in the life of the
ancient Hopi. This
figure, sometimes interpreted as mystical female figure, in reality reflects a contemplative
moment in the everyday life of a Hopi man (Taaqa) wearing a hand woven cotton blanket.
Prehistorically cotton was grown and woven, sometimes using complex weaves, to produce
blankets and cloth. Hopi cotton is one of the predecessors to today's modern cotton. © 1995
